….but there was a 300mph head wind and the mud was axle deep. Can you tell where it is yet? Still it was great to get out and enjoy the fresh air.

I’ve always considered Pitlochry to be a bit of a strange place. The profusion of tourist tat shops and distilleries has always made me consider it to be a sort of plastic Scottish town which panders entirely towards grockles and alcoholics. Indeed, if you look at a satellite image of the area there is what appears to be a ribbon of tartan which flanks the high street from the BP garage in the south to almost as far as Killiecrankie in the north.
Anyway we were there today to get a bit of fresh air and I came across this trail. It runs up the side of the Black Spout waterfall and will have to be investigated further on two wheels very soon.

Whilst I enjoy swoopy down hills and singletrack, I’m not a big fan (read ‘crap at’) of anything too technical. Be it rock gardens or god forbid, illicitly constructed wooden sea-saw or plank-of-death type structures I’ll take the chicken run everytime. Today, however, we came across this little number and a couple of similar others which were actually quite fun and challenging.

They made a welcome change from the 3ft deep leaf litter that was a bit like riding through crunchy orange snow!
