Perth MTB Conference Update
March 27, 2008 |
The first National Mountain Bike Consultative Conference took place on 29 January 2008, at the Salutation Hotel in Perth. It was part of a joint strategic initiative involving EventScotland, Forestry Commission Scotland, Highlands and Islands Enterprise, Scottish Cycling, Scottish Enterprise, sportscotland and VisitScotland and the aim of this one day event was to bring together all stakeholders in the sport for an open forum to exchange ideas on the best way to take the activity forward in Scotland. The desired outcome of the day was to gain a better understanding of the aims and challenges faced by individual interests within mountain biking in Scotland and to draw on those varied interests, experience and skills to inform a national strategy for the sustainable development of the sport. Scotland’s reputation as a world class mountain biking destination has gained media attention and international interest but within the sport, concerns exist as to how to move the sport forward, realise growth and business development opportunities while sustaining the existing quality of provision.
Some 200 delegates attended the event and the audience included representatives from:
o Major public agencies interested in the activity
o Local authorities
o The private and voluntary sectors
o Participants
