Had a little jaunt down to Pitmedden Forest last night. Despite being completely out classed on the fitness and skills front I had a great time. The trails were surprisingly dry considering the amount of rain we have had. The few muddy holes and slippery roots added to the fun. Unfortunately, my GPS decided to pack up before we set off and so I didn’t manage to get any logs of the trails. I guess that means we’ll have to pay a return visit soon.

Well its arrived. I picked it up from Richards at the back end of last week. I’ve only managed one decent ride on it so far and to be honest, I’m not 100% convinced I like it.

Getting on it for the first time made me realise that I haven’t ridden a drop handled bike for nearly 20 years! The cockpit was a bit long and so I moved the seat forward an inch or so which helped. The brakes also need some fine fettling as they have developed a rattle which is driving me bonkers.

So hopefully I’ll get out on it again later this week and report back on how it performs after the niggles have been sorted.

Sirrus Sport DIsc, originally uploaded by Geoff Johnson.

I’ve been the proud owner of a Specialized Sirrus Sport flat bar road bike for the best part of a year now. Its my friend and we’ve spent many a wet and miserable winter day cycling around Stanley, Caputh and Dunkeld.

Now that summer is finally arriving (honest!) I’ve decided to try something new. I was thinking long and hard about buying a cross bike. I like the idea of the low gearing and higher bottom bracket of a cross compared to a ‘proper’ roadie. I thought about buying a Jake the Snake but then a Spesh TriCross, but couldn’t justify the cost or garage space for another bike. So the Sirrus is currently at Richards in Perth having drop bars and shifters fitted. The only question now, is whether to go for the full lycra effect or stick with the baggies!
